Frankfurt, Germany, May 13th 2025 – INERATEC, a leading provider of sustainable e-Fuel solutions, has produced the first liters of synthetic e-Fuels and e-Waxes at its new pioneer plant in Frankfurt. The Frankfurt site is INERATEC’s first commercial-scale plant and the largest Power-to-Liquid (PtL) facility of its kind in Europe – and worldwide. This is an important milestone in scaling up PtL technology to market-ready levels, delivering on the promise of de-fossilizing global transport and chemical industries.
From vision to reality: A scalable model for PtX technology
“This first drop is an important milestone — it represents the beginning of a new era in sustainable fuel production,” said Tim Boeltken, co-founder and CEO of INERATEC. “With this plant, we are translating years of scaling into industrial reality, bringing synthetic fuels to the point of use and reducing our dependence on fossil sources.”
The Frankfurt site is INERATEC’s first commercial-scale plant and is designed to produce up to 2,500 tons of sustainable e-Fuels and e-Waxes annually. Located within an industrial park, the plant uses hydrogen and biogenic CO₂ to generate synthetic hydrocarbons that are refined into drop-in fuels, waxes, and chemicals. These products are compatible with existing infrastructure and will meet the regulatory requirements for sustainable fuels across sectors such as aviation, shipping, and the chemical industry.
Since its founding in 2016, INERATEC has delivered over a dozen pilot and demonstration plants. The company’s technology has been validated in diverse environments, ranging from laboratory-scale to mobile applications and pilot-scale projects. Now it enters the industrial production phase in which commercially relevant product quantities are becoming available for the first time.
Backed by leading investors and EU Support
The project has received backing from the German Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUV), the EU Innovation Fund, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and high-profile investors including Piva Capital, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, HG Ventures, ENGIE New Ventures, Safran Corporate Ventures and Honda.
An official opening ceremony for the Frankfurt site will follow soon. The company is currently preparing international production sites to meet the growing demand for its products across various sectors.
